PURPOSE:To obtain an image high in intensification ratio and low in fog, by color-developing an imagewise exposed silver halide photographic material in presence of a compound reacting with silver halide or being adsorbed to it using a specified monobath type developing and intensifying solution. CONSTITUTION:An imagewise exposed silver halide photographic material containing a small amount of silver is color-developed using a monobath type developing and intensifying solution containing 1X10<-7>-10<-2> mol nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound reacting with silver halide or being adsorbed into it; 0.5-200 mol H2O2 or compound releasing H2O2; >=10<3> mol/l color developing agent; and <=2X10<-4> mol/l Br or I ions. The developed material is fixed or bleach-fixed, washed with water, and dried to obtain a color image, thus permitting suppression of development and intensification due to poisoning, bleaching, dissolving, etc. of the nuclei in a latent image to be prevented in the process of monobath development and intensification, and good photographic characteristics to be obtained by short-time processing.
