The invention relates to a process and a device to enable the production of V-belts which are open at the flank and trapezoidal in cross-section, for example for motor vehicles. V-belts open at the flank are cut out of an already vulcanised coil which is tubular in structure; hitherto this was done on rigid or expandable cutting drums. Expandable or rigid drums therefore had to be held in stock for each V-belt length. According to the present invention, the vulcanised coil is tensioned over two rolls arranged so as to be adjustable axially parallel to one another and is cut to form individual V-belts, it being possible for the rolls to be held either horizontally or else vertically. The cutting operation is carried out by means of circular knives rotating at high speed.
