In this electric subunit, which is designed in particular as an overvoltage protector for a vehicle electrical system (network), an electronic subassembly such as a diode or Zener diode is provided. This Zener diode is assigned a heat-dissipating cooling plate. In order to achieve a small and compact design of the unit with reliable protective encapsulation and high thermal dissipation, the cooling plate of the Zener diode is constructed together with an assigned printed circuit board essentially as a cylindrical body which is bounded at an end face by a base plate of a housing. In this arrangement, the cylinder body is constructed such that the outer surface of the cooling plate bears in a thermally conducting fashion by means of frictional resistance against an inner surface of a metallic protective hood of the housing.
