Acylamino-N-phenylpyrazole derivatives of the general formula: [wherein R<1> represents R<8>C(=O)- (wherein R<8> represents H, C1-7alkyl or C1-4alkoxy optionally substituted by C1-4alkoxy, C2-5alkoxycarbonyl or halogen, C3-4alkenyloxy, C3-6cycloalkyl optionally substituted by CH3 or C2H5, or phenoxy), R<2> represents H or R<8>C(=O)-, or R<1> and R<2> together represent -CO-(CRR)m-CO-, R<3> represents F, Cl, Br, C1-4alkyl optionally substituted by halogen, or C2-4alkenyl, R<4> represents F, Cl, Br, NO2, CH3 or C2H5 and R<5>, R<6> and R<7> represent H, F, Cl, Br, NO2, CH3 or C2H5 or R<4> and R<5> each represent Cl and R<3>, R<6> and R<7> each represent H, R and R represent H or C1-4alkyl and m is 2 or 3] possess useful herbicidal properties; herbicidal compositions, methods for controlling the growth of weeds and processes for the preparation of the acylamino-N-phenylpyrazole derivatives are described.
