PURPOSE:To selectively perform the read-disable processing on read characters, by outputting characters of basic character patterns and similar patterns to the output section upon adding rank codes which show decision to or not to output in response to each character respectively. CONSTITUTION:When characters on a medium and read by a reading section R, a counter K is started. Upon receiving the counted value of the counter K, an address signal generating section A generates an address signal. Then, character information at a memory area which corresponds to the address signal is read out from the memory of a stored section M and inputted into a comparing section L. At the comparing section L, the character information is compared with the read signal from the reading section R which is separately inputted in advance, and, when they coincide with each other, the character information is outputted to an output buffer B. At the same time, output ranks F1-F3 of the character patterns to be outputted are also outputted to the output buffer B. When the rank of the character read by the reading section B is F3 (a deformed character, such as J), a signal processing section H generates a read disable signal which represents that the character is outside line of the object to be read. |
