PURPOSE:To obtain a coating material capable of forming a smooth and uniform coated layer on a core strand at high speed by adding a Pt hardening agent and a specified amount of specified polymethylphenyl-siloxane to a mixture of 2 kinds of specified polysiloxanes in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:A coating material is prepared by adding Pt or a Pt compound as a hardening agent and 5-40pts.wt. polymethylphenylsiloxane having 3-40 average polymn. degree and 10-50mol% phenyl group in org. groups bonded to Si to 100pts.wt. polymethylvinylphenylsiloxane (polymer A) having 50-800 average polymn. degree and org. groups bonded to Si and composed of >= 2 vinyl groups, 10-50mol% phenyl group and the balance methyl group in 1 molecule and polyorganohydrogensiloxane (polymer B) having >=3 H atoms bonded to Si in 1 molecule by an amount regulating the number of H atoms bonded to Si to 0.5-10per 1 said vinyl group of the polymer A. The amount of the hardening agent is 0.2-300ppm as Pt of the total amount of the polymers A, B. By making use of the coating material, a smooth and uniform coated layer can be formed on an optical fiber core wire. |
