For doors having a braked direction of revolution, there are already a number of different systems of door closer mechanisms which are based on the hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical principle. However, they are complex, expensive, large and often unsightly. All these disadvantages are avoided by means of the method according to the invention, which is characterised in that the braking force is generated by a shear-thickening fluid which is situated in a shear gap formed by the parts of a hinge plate, door hinge or door bearing journal moving relative to one another.
