PURPOSE:To produce a catalyst by which an H2 rich gas of a low concn. of Co is obtained by the reforming of methanol under a wide temp. range by depositing copper oxide on porous active alumina then calcining the same at high temp. then subjecting to a reducing treatment. CONSTITUTION:After an aq. Cu(NO)2 soln. is impregnated with porous active alumina powder sufficiently, the excess soln. is separated by filtration, then it is dried for 1-5hr at 100-200 deg.C in air flow; further the same is heated for 1-5hr at 400-600 deg.C to decompose the deposited Cu(NO3)2 to CuO. The deposited CuO is calcinated at 700-1,000 deg.C, more preferably 800-900 deg.C in air flow, then CuO is subjected to a reducing treatment at 200-350 deg.C, more preferably 250-300 deg.C in a gaseous H2-N2 mixture, whereby the catalyst for the reforming of methanol is obtd. It is possible to widen the temp. range for operation of an improver which can reduce the concn. of CO in a modified gas down to about 0.8vol% up to about 30 deg.C by using said catalyst. |
