Apparatus for expanding metallic strip includes two expander blocks 2, 4 which are relatively reciprocable to cooperate and thereby cut a portion of the strip, two contra-rotating shafts 12, 14 provided with an eccentric cam 22 adapted to contact and thereby reciprocate the upper expander block 4 with respect to the lower expander block 2 and springs 24 to move the expander blocks apart again. Feed rollers 26 feed the strip incrementally between the expander blocks and a rotary free wheel mechanism 42 is connected to the shaft 14 by a toothed belt 40. The free wheel mechanism can rotate with the shaft 14 in the normal working direction but not in the opposite direction and thus prevents temporary backward running of the apparatus under the action of the springs 24. <IMAGE> |
