PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst for decomposition of ozone which has excellent ozone decomposing performance at relatively low temp. and durabiliy, and is inexpensive and economical by adding a nickel oxide to a cobalt oxide. CONSTITUTION:NiO is added at 1-30%, more preferably 5-25% in terms of atomic % of Ni to a cobalt oxide (CoOX), whereby a catalyst for decomposition of ozone is obtd. Said CoOX refers generically to CoO, Co2O3, Co3O4, etc. The atomic % of Ni is expressed by the formula: Atomic % of Ni=(number of Ni atoms)/(number of Ni atoms + number of Co atoms) X 100. Said catalyst is obtained by mixing prescribed contents of the CoOx obtd. by thermal decomposition of basic cobalt carbonate in air flow and the NiO obtd. by calcining of nickel oxyhydroxide in air flow, adding a suitable content of silica sol as a binder thereto, and kneading the mixture then calcining and grinding the mixture in air flow. |
