The subject of the invention is a fuel injection nozzle which opens inwards and the valve element of which is subdivided into two parts (17, 18), which can move in an axial direction relative to one another. The extent of the relative movements between the two parts is limited by suitable means (19). Fuel can act on the opposing surfaces of the two parts of the valve element at the pressure prevailing in the fuel inlet (15). The opposing surfaces are greater than that surface of the one valve element part (18) which is acted upon by the fuel and which interacts with the valve seat (13). During the initial delivery of fuel both valve element parts move relative to one another, whilst after this they are moved as one piece in order to allow fuel through the outlet (12). When the fuel flow ends, the valve element comes to rest on the valve seat and shock waves in the fuel occurring after this are absorbed by relative movements between the two valve element parts.

|
