The band has a reticulated structure and is elastic in all directions. It is made on needle knitting looms of the Raschel type. Chains are formed on all needles of the loom by providing longitudinally a combination of chains of reticulated inextensible yarns (1) and of elastic warp threads (2) which are not reticulated but are interwoven with the inextensible chains. Elastic yarns (3) which are covered with an inextensible yarn are used transversely and extend over at least two chains which are connected and assembled by these transverse yarns. The elastic warp threads (2) are woven in a stretched condition so that a retraction of the inextensible chains will take place after manufacture to give an embossed appearance to the band.
