The dishwasher is connected to a domestic hot water supply. It requires no auxiliary power, relying solely upon water pressure for operation. A rotatable rack is mounted within the housing (14). A water jet system rotates the rack and washes the dishes within it. There is a dosing device (17) for adding detergent to the water flowing into the water jet system. The speed of rotation of the rack is regulated by adjusting the flow of water to the jet system by a valve operated by a lever (34). The water jet system comprises a collimated jet for directing a stream of water at the rack to rotate it, and a second spray jet for sustaining rotation and scrubbing the dishes.
