Textiles are washed and softened by treatment at 20-100 degrees C in wash liqds. contg. (a) 0.2-1.5 g dm-3 tenside component consisting mainly of anionic tensides of sulphonate and/or sulphate type with 8-18C in hydrophobic gp., soaps and opt. non-ionic tensides, (b) 0.05-1.2 g dm-3 reaction prod. (A) of 1-3 moles lower alkene oxide, esp. C2H4O and/or C3H6O, with 1 mole 2-6 (2-3)C alkane diamine mono-substd. by an aliphatic 8-24 (12-18) C hydrocarbyl gp., provided ratio (a) : (b) >1, (c) 0.005-0.015 g dm-3 optical brightener of formula (I), (where R1 and R2 are H, halogen, CN or 1-5C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxy; and M is an alkali metal, NH4, or 1-6C amine or alkylolamine cation); (d) 0.2-6 g dm-3 organic, P-free complexing agent, (e) 0-2.5 g dm-3 standard components, e.g. inorganic, non-complexing builders, dirt vehicles, foam control agents, bleaches, enzymes, anti-microbial cpds. Pref. phosphate-free compsn. contains, by wt., 5-50 (8-40)% (a) including opt. foam-inhibitor derived from satd. 20-26 C fatty acid soaps, 2-20 (5-15)% (A), 0.05-0.3 (0.1-0.2)% (I), 10-90 (15-50)% organic P-free complexing agent for Ca ions, esp. as alkali salts, and 0-40 (3-30)% (e) including water.
