The method of making a tea or coffee bag, uses an insert of malleable material. This can be incorporated between the layers of permeable material forming the bag so as to provide an extension which is easily bent over the edge of a cup in which the tea or coffee is made. In one form, two strips (11,12) of e.g. metal can be enclosed between the two layers (1,2) from top to bottom. In another form a plate or foil can be enclosed between the upper parts of the two layers, or alternatively a set of horizontal strips can be enclosed between the upper parts. In another form, the two layers are of a conventional size, and the insert can protrude from them for a suitable distance to form a support.
