摘要 The degree of cure and/or the proportion of glass present in resin-impregnated glass fibre mat or moulding compound is determined by scanning the material with three beams of differing energy such that the first is of a wavelength adsorbed by the base resin but not by some complementary radical indicative of the degree of cure, the second beam is of a wavelength adsorbed by the complementary radical but not the base resin, and the third beam is of a wavelength not adsorbed by either the base resin or the complementary radical. Comparisons of the proportion of each beam transmitted through the material can be analysed to determine the state of cure and/or glass density (content). - Esp. applicable to systems where the binder is a phenolic resin characterised by absorption by amine groups and the radical indicative of the degree of cure is a hydroxyl group (-OH), to allow control of the degree of cure by oven ageing, using non-destructive inspection. Eliminates the effects of varying cure levels on prior art determination using a twin beam system. Adaptable in principle to other mineral filled binder resin combinations.(2/2)
