PURPOSE:To detect and locate a failure of the steering gear by comparing the instructed helm angle indication of the sterring wheel and that of a pilot power unit in the pilot side system with the true helm angle in the steering engine system. CONSTITUTION:In the steering stand side, an instructed helm angle detector 10, which detects and outputs the instructed helm angle derived from the operation of a steering wheel 1, is installed in addition to the pilot control system. A pilot power unit 5 is provided with an instructed helm angle indicator 12, which detects and outputs the instructed helm angle of the pilot unit 5, in addition to a helm angle detector 6. A tiller 9, which is driven by a steering engine power unit 7, is provided with a true helm angle detector 8, which detects and outputs the true helm angle. Each output from helm angle detectors, 8, 10, and 12, is entered into a failure detecting circuit in order to discriminate and display a failure of the pilot side system A or the steering engine system B. |
