<p>The body of a heavy duty railway drawgear unit is approx. rectangular with upper, lower and side walls and one end wall. One end is left open. The interior has longitudinal grooves. These partly limit a compartment for springs, main and auxiliary. The grooves are arranged in a special line. Shock absorbing is given partly by the different spring assemblies of normal type, with a central guide rod. The springs are partly of helicoidal, square section type. In association with the springs is a friction type damper. The drawgear handles traction or buffing forces equally well and is shorter than many kinds.</p> |
