PURPOSE:To greatly improve the thermal efficiency of a uniflow-scavenged engine, by providing a calculatory controller to regulate the opening and closing of a scavenging control valve on the basis of the torque, rotational frequency and scavenging pressure of the engine to increase the effective work therein. CONSTITUTION:A scavenging control valve 12 is fitted on the peripheral surface of a cylinder liner 10 so that the valve can slide in the circumferential direction. A calculatory controller 26 computes the optimal times of opening and closing of the scavenging control valve 12 on the basis of the signals of an engine torque sensor 27, an engine rotational frequency sensor 28 and a scavenging pressure sensor 29. When crankshaft phases determined by crankshaft phase pulses 30 and crankshaft phase reference pulses 31 are coincident with the results of the computation, control signals 21, 22 are generated to open and close valves 19, 20 to open and close the scavenging control valve 12. As a result, the effective work done by the expanding gas in a cylinder is increased to greatly improve the thermal efficiency of the engine. |
