PURPOSE:To make a head cylinder small sized by enabling non-constant speed reproduction even if picture information for one field's share is split into a plurality of tracks, by providing the 3rd rotary head for non-constant speed reproduction in addition to a plurality of rotary heads for constant speed recording. CONSTITUTION:Two rotary heads (H1 and H2) are provided for a head cylinder with an interval of 180 deg.. The 3rd rotary head H3 is provided for one (H2) of the rotary heads with an interval (p). The interval (p) corresponds to a track pitch of still or slow reproduction, that is, at non-constant speed reproduction. At recording, one field is recorded on two tracks T1, T2 or T10, T20 on a magnetic tape 12 with the rotary heads (H1, H2) through splitting. A vertical synchronizing signal is recorded on one track between the fields. The tracks T1, T2 or the T10, T20 are respectively reproduced with the rotary heads (H1, H2) at the constant speed reproduction and the tracks T1, T2 or the T10, T20 are scanned with the rotary heads (H1, H3) at non-constant speed reproduction to reproduce the signal for one field's share. |
