The gas generator for a gas turbine engine has a combustion chamber (3) inside the inner wall (8) of a double walled outer cylinder (2). Gas is fed into the combustion chamber by a tube (7) at one end, and is discharged from its open end (4) towards the blades of the turbine (10). Fresh air enters the outer tube through a connection (1) behind the gas supply tube. This air flows forwards around the inner wall to pass through holes (9) at the gas discharge end, then flow in the reverse direction to pass through holes through the combustion chamber to mix with the burning gases with a swirling action. Part of the air also cools the combustion chamber while circulating over its outside.
|
