<p>The valve is for high pressure fluids at low flow rates. It comprises a cavity (12) in a housing (11) containing a closure member (23) which in the closed position is urged against a resilient O-ring (19) by a spring (28) and by fluid pressure to form a seal. To open the valve, the closure member is moved away from the O-ring by a hollow actuating pin (29), allowing fluid to travel past the closure member and down a channel (31) in the pin. Thus the O-ring is protected against dirt entering from outside. Since it is pref. elastomeric, the ring is also relatively insensitive to contamination by particulate impurities in the fluid stream to valves with metallic seats. Since the actuator contacts the closure member at a position which does not constitute a sealing surface, damage to the surface is minimised.</p> |
