The additional rotor (1) rotates about its axis (2) of rotation (spindle), which, for its part, is supported in a bearing frame (10) revolving with the shaft (13, 14) of the multi-cylinder piston machine; the rotation about the axis (2) of rotation is brought about by rolling contact with a fixed gear rim (22). Due to the Coriolis force associated with its rotation about the axis (2) of rotation, the additional rotor (1) generates a torque, the direction of which alternates and the magnitude of which is determined by the mass and the distance of the centres of gravity (3) of the additional rotor (1) from its axis (2) of rotation. The transmission ratio of the drive of the additional rotor (1) for a rotation about the axis (2) of rotation is chosen so that it corresponds to half the ordinal number of an order of the torsional vibration to be suppressed. The vibration is suppressed by virtue of the fact that the torques of the Coriolis force and of the order of torsional vibration are in phase opposition. The new device improves the smoothness of running of piston machines - especially those with relatively small numbers of cylinders. <IMAGE>
