<p>The socket pipe seal is placed in the gap between two overlapping pipes (4, 5) and is made of elastic material which provides the seal. A circular support (1) is placed between the pipes and lodges in a groove on the inside surface of the outer pipe (5). This support ring is made of a row of overlapping segments (1a), and has a flange (1b) which fits in the groove (3). The support ring is made from a cylindrical band with slits cut in from one edge. The seal (2) lies adjacent to this support ring, on the inner edge of the gap between the concentric pipes, and is prevented from sliding off the end of the inner pipe by its compression inside the gap.</p> |
