Finned heat transfer tube - has extended surface on inside of tube with internal radial fins

The finned tube (1) has longitudinal rows of fins (2) arranged around the inner circumference of the tube. The fins have a triangular cross section but the length of each fin is different, producing gaps (3) of irregular length. This imparts a strong turbulence to the fluid in the tube, aiding the heat transfer properties. The tube is produced initially with continuous internal splines of triangular cross section. Subsequent drawing down of the tube causes the splines to break at irregular intervals to produce the fins.
