PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound, by the oxidation of isobutylene using a catalyst having excellent durability, and obtained by adding Cs, an element selected from V and Pd, and an element selected from Ti, Sn and Zr to a catalyst system of Mo-Bi-Fe-Co-O. CONSTITUTION:Methacrolein is obtained by the catalytic reaction of isobutylene with O2 in the vapor-phase of high temperature in the presence of a catalyst having the composition of formula (X is V and/or Pd; Y is at least one element selected from a group of Ti, Sn and Zr; when a=12, b=2-12, c=0.5-7, d=0.1-5, e=0.0005-0.5, f=0.01-2, and g=0.1). EFFECT:Both reactivity of isobutylene and selectivity of methacrolein are improved. The abrasion resistance, crushing strength, etc. of the catalyst are high. Operation can be continued safely over a long period. |
