In such a manual shift device a gear shift lever shaft (7), kinematically connected to a manual shift lever (6), and three gear shift levers (8, 9 and 10) are supported in a bearing bracket (4). The gear shift levers (8, 9 and 10) have recesses (11, 12 and 13) and the gear shift lever shaft (7) has a shift finger (14) which can alternately be brought into positive engagement with the recesses (11, 12 and 13). One (10) of the gear shift levers (8 and 10) is used for shifting both the 5th gear and a reverse gear. In order to put the reverse gear in the shift pattern of the manual gear shift lever (6) into a shift slot (39) adjacent to the shift slot (38) of the 1st gear, the gear shift lever shaft (7) has an additional auxiliary shift finger (15) for the recess (13) of the gear shift lever (10) of the 5th gear and reverse gear together with a locking cam (16) and the bearing bracket (4) has two counter cams (19 and 20) alternately interacting with the locking cam (16) and acting only in one direction of rotation (17 or 18) of the gear shift lever shaft (7).
