OPTICAL CHARACTER READING SYSTEM

PURPOSE:To accurately read characters, by sequentially performing pickup of row characteristic code and synthesis characteristic code and recognition of characters based on a binary signal. CONSTITUTION:A binary circuit 13 converts an analog signal from a two-dimension sensor 12 into a binary signal corresponding to a character region and a background region and the binary signal is applied to a row characteristic pickup circuit 14 and a character shift detection circuit 15. The circuit 14 forms a row characteristic code and a synthesis characteristic pickup circuit 16 forms the synthesized characteristic code based on he output from the circuit 15 and the row characteristic code. The row characteristic code is stored in a synthesis characteristic storage circuit 17, characters are recognized at a recognizing circuit 18 and outputted via an interface circuit 19.
