An apparatus for ejecting the compacted refuse from the refuse container (1) of, in particular, a refuse collection vehicle has an ejector plate (2) which is displaceable in a guide (3) on the container bottom (4) in the longitudinal direction of the refuse container (1), and a multi-stage hydraulic piston-and-cylinder unit (6) centred between the ejector plate (2) and the rear wall (5) of the refuse container (1) which actuates the ejector plate. The piston-and-cylinder unit (6) is articulated by one end in the upper region of the rear wall (5) and by the other end in the lower region of the ejector plate (2). In order to guarantee a substantial force component in the longitudinal direction of the guides (3) of the ejector plate (2) from the very start of the ejection movement, at least one additional hydraulic piston-and-cylinder unit (11, 12), acting on the ejector plate (2), is present, this being secured on the container wall (5) at approximately the height of the guide (3) and parallel to the container bottom (4), and simultaneously being capable of being subjected to the action of a pressure medium at the same time or even before the multi-stage piston-and-cylinder unit. <IMAGE>
