PURPOSE:To obtain a multifunction type laser printer provided with an image input function with use of a laser beam and its optical system, by winding a paper containing an image to be inputted around a photosensitive drum, irradiating the paper with the laser beam and receiving the reflected light at a photoelectric transducer. CONSTITUTION:An original 21 is taken out of a hopper 20 and wound round a drum 101. A laser light source 12 is driven, and the laser beam 120 is condensed on the original 21. Then the original 21 is scanned horizontally. The light reflected from the original 21 is made incident to a photoelectric surface which is opposite to the reflecting surface of a photoelectric transducer 24 and has a structure long in the horizontal direction. The reflected light is converted into an electric signal corresponding to the intensity of the reflected light produced based on the contrast of the original. An electric signal W is delivered as the laser beam moves horizontally and then converted 25 into a digital signal to be stored in a memory 26 in the form of the picture information.
