In a filter for liquids, in particular for hydraulic media, which has openings for the inflow and outflow of the medium to be filtered and in which at least one filter insert, communicating with the openings, for the medium to be filtered is arranged, the collection of gas in the interior of the filter body, resulting from the low static pressure of the filtered liquid, is to be eliminated; for this purpose, it is proposed that the space present within the filter insert and, receiving the filtered medium and communicating with the outflow opening can be connected in the upper region via at least one connection channel to a suction channel, in particular a suction line, of the liquid reservoir.
