The arrangement for storing telephone numbers in telecommunications systems, in particular telephone switching systems, indicates how, in the case of memory areas with pre-defined capacity, even more digits of telephone number information can be added to the memory as required if the telephone number information exceeds the capacity of the memory area. To achieve this, continuation information is stored instead of the last digit of a telephone number and consequently the memory area which follows immediately afterwards begins with continuation information which similarly cannot be interpreted as a digit. The two memory areas are thus combined to form a common memory area which can be addressed only with the destination number of the first area. A further memory area could also be added in the rare event that even this combination proved to be inadequate.
