The invention relates to an appliance for heating metallic workpieces by means of high-frequency currents using a high-frequency appliance, consisting of an HF generator and, if required, a power amplifier downstream of the HF generator and with a heating coil which can be connected on the output side to the high-frequency appliance via a feeder and is to be arranged in the vicinity of the workpiece to be heated. The invention teaches the use of such an appliance for local heating, especially preheating of the surrounding of a weld in a workpiece. To this end, a heating coil having resilient conductors is proposed, which is designed in the form of a wrappable bandage.
