The cutting mechanism of a shredder is to be improved in that the strippers which have, up until now, always been designed in one piece and are located between the individual discs of the cutting rollers are now designed from two portions (3), lying in a mirror-inverted manner with respect to each other, per cutting gap. The stripper parts (3) lying in a row (R) in each case are simultaneously mounted, via rods (5), separately in the two mounting plates (4) without connection to the neighbouring row (R).
