To improve the walking characteristics and wearing characteristics of sports, leisure and jogging shoes, in particular for preventing disadvantageous effects on the parts of the body which are especially loaded during walking, such as feet, legs and vertebral column, the sole, which consists of very light, hot-workable material and widens downwards in cross-section in a wedge-shaped manner, is shaped in an undulating manner (seen in side profile) on the underside, in other words with in each case an undulation peak in the region of the heel and of the forefoot and in between an undulation trough. Thickness of the sole, rise and fall of the undulation line starting or finishing at heel rear edge and foot tip and the undulation course in general can be varied, as a result of which different areas of application can be taken into account. The undulating sole shape makes possible a better rolling-off process during walking. For further improvement of the rolling-off process, a flexible plastic or metal plate can be worked into the upper side of the sole, which plate extends forwards from the heel rear edge to at most the height of the central foot capitulum of the foot.
