<p>The force applied by a hydraulic operating jack and the opposing force exerted by the airflow on the flap are in equilibrium at various opening angles. The device consists of piston rod (5) and cylinder (4), pivoting respectively at (6, 8) on the brake and airframe. The jack is supplied with fluid from pipe (9) which has a flow restrictor (10). A return pipe (11) returns fluid to the reservoir. Connecting the pipes (9) and (11) is a sleeve valve (13). The fluid passing through the pipes (9) and (10) operates the jack to open the air brake. As the brake opens, it opens sleeve valve (13) through linkage (15), bleeding off a certain amount of fluid through pipe (12) to return pipe (13). The amount bled off increases progressively as the brake opens until an equilibrium position.</p> |
