A particulate soap-containing detergent composition with effective building, detergency and solubility properties is obtained if the soap component is substantially free from lauric soaps, and contains a certain level of sodium linolate, either along or in admixture with certain levels of sodium soaps of C16-C24 saturated and/or C16-C24 monounsaturated fatty acids.
