PURPOSE:To reduce the thermal shrinkage on the short sides of a continuous casting mold and to improve the life of the mold by coating a heat- and abrasion-resistant material which is not thermally deformed by thermal stress during operation on both corner parts of the short sides of the mold more thickly than on the other parts. CONSTITUTION:On the short sides of a continuous casting mold, the coating layers 2' in both corner parts thereof are made thicker than the coating layers 2 in other parts. Since a heat- and abrasion-resistant material such as Ni or Mo is used for the material of the layers 2, 2', the deformation in the coated parts in both corner parts is confined within the elastic limit despite the repetition of thermal shrinkage during the operation of the mold, and the generation of the broadside shrinkage on the short sides is obviated. Therfore the breakout that occurs in plastic shrinkage and deformation is suppressed. |
