Lubricant compsns., esp. for metal working - contg. amine salts of alk(en)yl succinic acid partial esters

Lubricant compsns. contain amine salts of (6-22C alkyl or alkenyl) succinic acid partial esters. The salts are esp. useful as additives for aq. metal-working fluids, in which they act as rust inhibitors, biocides and nonferrous-metal deactivators. The prefd. additive is the triethanolamine salt of monomethyl tetrapropenylsuccinate. The amine is pref. a 2-22C alkanolamine, esp. triethanolamine. The partial ester is pref. derived from a 1-18C alkanol (esp. MeOH) and a poly(olefin)succinic acid (esp. tetrapropenylsuccinic acid). The lubricant compsns. pref. contain 0.5-65 (esp. 5-50) wt. % of the salt.
