PURPOSE:To obtain a higher efficiency than that of an Nd:YAG laser by using as an oscillating element a Gd2Ga5O12 single crystal contaning Nd. CONSTITUTION:An exciter xenon flash lamp 1 is arranged at one focal point of a focusing device 3, an oscillating element 2 is arranged at the other focal point, a glass filter 6 is provided therebetween and a pair of reflecting mirrors 4 and 5 to form an optical resonator are arranged on both sides of the element 2, to constitute a solid-state laser head. Used as said element 2 is a Gd3Ga5O12 single crystal rod containing 0.8-3.5at.% Nd. The single crystal rod of said composition has an oscillation threshold value higher than that of Nd:YAG, so that the laser head using said single crystal rod can obtain a higher efficiency than an Nd:YAG laser. |
