PURPOSE:To prevent the quick abrasion of the copper plate of a mold by the solidified shell of a continuously cast ingot by joining small-sized ceramic plates of specific sizes on the surface in the lower part of the copper plate of the mold for continuous casting on the molten steel side. CONSTITUTION:Plural sheets of ceramic plates of SiC of <=50mm. length on one side are joined on the surface in the lower part of the copper plate of a mold in a continuous casting installation on the molten steel side. The quick abrasion of the lower part of the copper plate of the mold by the contact and friction with the solidified shell of a continuously cast ingot is prevented, and the life of the copper plate of the mold is prolonged. Since the ceramic plates used are small in size, the total cost is made lower than that in the use of one sheet of a large-sized plate and the heat cracks generated in the ceramic plates are reduced. |
