PURPOSE:To obtain required color images from only one liquid crystal display device by laminating a TN type liquid crystal cell and a G-H type liquid crystal cell to form the liquid crystal display device and controlling the orientation of liquid crystal in these cells to display images of 4 colors. CONSTITUTION:A TN type liquid crystal cell 4 and a G-H type liquid crystal cell 3 are laminated to form a display body. A color deflecting plate 5 (green) is fitted to the nonlaminated surface of the TN type liquid crystal cell 4 and a diffusing plate 2 is fitted to the nonlaminated surface of the G-H type liquid crystal cell 3 obtained by adding red dye to a nematic type liquid crystal. The light projected from a light source 1 is transmitted through the diffusing plate 2 and reaches the G-H type liquid crystal cell 3 as linearly polarized light. Red light is transmitted at the off-time of applied voltage and white color is transmitted at the on-time. If light is passed through the color deflecting plate 5 (green) by turning of/off the voltage applied to the TN type liquid crystal cell 3 to control the orientation of the liquid crystal, required color images of red, red + green, green and white are obtained only by one liquid crystal display device. |
