The invention relates to a method and device for filling in light in gaps, characterised in that the cross-section of an illuminating beam path, which is rendered telecentric in a known way, is brought with the aid of a glass element whose total optical (dioptric, focal, refracting) power is equal to zero to a small cross-section corresponding to the gap width and shape. This method can be applied both in the case of rectilinear and in the case of curved or annular gaps, and permits a substantially better utilisation of light by comparison with the known illuminating arrangements for illuminating gaps.
