The invention relates to a building which has a continuous foundation, cross walls and ceilings as storey-separating means. In order to widen the spans used hitherto, while maintaining the cost-effective reinforced-concrete cross-wall construction method, and to provide variable outlines, the cross walls are arranged such that they are offset with respect to one another from storey to storey and they are designed, in terms of statics, such that each cross wall has a suspender beam or joist function with respect to the storey located therebeneath or thereabove.
