In a method of producing an electrode foil for electrolytic capacitors, as-rolled aluminium foil is subjected to an electrolytic etching treatment. In a first etching stage, an etching current density above the pitting potential of the aluminium is used and the subsequent etching takes place at an etching current density below the pitting potential. After the first etching stage, the aluminium foil is heat treated.
