The invention relates to an apparatus (1), in particular for the removal of slag residues in launders (17) for molten metal in iron and steel production, the apparatus having a tool at the end of a cantilever arm the position of which can be varied relative to the launder (17) and which is arranged on a travelling gantry to allow it to be moved along the launder (17). The aim is to provide a solution which allows the launders (17) to be freed from slag (18) without the risk of damaging the refractory lining and to allow the cleaning of the launders (17) to be performed extremely quickly and hence economically by simple means.
