PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive golden color case for wristwatch of improved resistance to scratching, abrasion and corrosion by carrying out flash plating of gold on the surface of the case then forming a thin film of silicon oxide by a PVD method after vapor deposition of a thin metallic chromium layer thereon. CONSTITUTION:Flash plating of gold of about <=1mu is carried out on the surface of a blank material for wristwatch cases. After a thin intermediate film of metallic chromium is vapor deposited thereon in order to improve adhesive strength, an inorg. transparent film of silicon oxide is formed to about 1-5mu thicknesses by a PVD technique. Said inorg. transparent film has no moisture permeability, has high hardness and is highly resistant to corrosion, scratching and abrasion. Therefore, the economical and inexpensive golden color case which is unaffected by fluctuations in prices of gold is obtained. |
