A heating boiler for solid fuels consists of a boiler casing which is flowed through by water, with a furnace space which is surrounded by the casing and the bottom of which is formed by an ash-carrier plate which is flowed through by water. Situated above this plate is an ash stop which extends over the length of the ash-carrier plate and can be moved, in a limited manner in opposite directions, from a starting position along one longitudinal edge of the ash-carrier plate in the transverse direction across the latter parallel to itself. The ash-carrier plate has a hollow on and along its two side edges parallel to the direction of movement of the ash stop. The ash stop is designed as a hollow body flowed through by water and provided at its ends with projections which are drawn down into the hollows. The water chamber of the ash stop is, in the drawn down projection region of one end, connected via a first flexible connection line to the water chamber of the ash-carrier plate and, in the region above the projection on its other end, via a second flexible connection line to the water chamber of the boiler casing.
