PURPOSE:To improve the sensitivity, high contrast, etc. by chemically sensitizing a silver halide emulsion having a specified laminated structure with fine silver chloride particles and unstable sulfur. CONSTITUTION:A support is coated with an emulsion layer contg. silver halide particles each consisting of the 1st layer contg. >=20mol% silver chloride and the 2nd adjacent layer contg. silver chloride >=10mol% less than silver chloride in the 1st layer. The outermost layer of each of the silver halide particles contains >=50mol% silver bromide, and the particle surfaces contg. 0-5mol% silver iodide have been chemically sensitized in the presence of <=10mol% fine silver chloride particles and <=0.01mol% unstable sulfur to 1mol silver halide. The outermost layer may be the 1st or 2nd layer. Fogging, contrast reduction, etc. due to the surface sensitization of the laminated particles are not caused. |
