PURPOSE:To reform a magnetic layer surface and to improve running characteristics, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance by forming a polymer film of (meth)acrylic acid, having F at ester side-chains, on the surface of a ferromagnetic metallic thin film of Co metal (alloy). CONSTITUTION:On the surface of a polyester film, etc., a Co metal or alloy of Co-Ni, etc., is vacuum-deposited to form a magnetic layer of a ferromagnetic metallic thin film. This magnetic layer is coated with a solution of a polymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid having F at ester side-chains, and the solution is dried. This polymer film has great adhesive strength with the magnetic layer, and a magnetic tape having superior running characteristics, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance is obtained. |
